How do I rent a Donkey Republic bike?
Follow these 6 steps to find, book, and unlock your bicycle using the mobile app.
1. Download and Set Permissions
Install the Donkey Republic app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Crucial: You must enable Bluetooth and Location Services in your phone settings for the app to detect and unlock the bike.
2. Locate and Select Your Bike
Open the map to find a nearby pick-up location.
Selection: Tap a hub icon, choose your bike, and tap "Confirm selection."
Group Rentals: You can rent up to 8 vehicles simultaneously on a single account.
3. Choose a Pricing Plan
Select the rental model that fits your needs:
Just Ride: Pay-as-you-go based on duration.
Memberships: Monthly or yearly subscriptions for frequent riders.
Passes: Fixed-price deals for specific time blocks (e.g., a 24-hour pass).
Note: Pricing options are city-specific.
4. Log In or Sign Up
Follow the on-screen prompts to create a new account or log into an existing one to save your payment details.
5. Review and Add Insurance
On the Rental Confirmation screen, you can finalize your trip details:
Optional Add-ons: Enter discount codes or add theft insurance for peace of mind.
Terms: Review and accept the Terms & Conditions, then tap "Rent now."
6. Unlock and Start Your Ride
Find your bike at the hub and verify that the name on the bike frame matches the name shown in the app.
Unlocking: Tap "Unlock" in the app. Once the electronic lock clicks open, your rental has officially begun!

Hello. Are the bikes exactly like in the picture? It seems that quite a few of them are similar. Also I read about an insurance, do I have to buy separate insurance on top of the price for renting? By the way I was looking at Copenhagen as I'll be there in a few days.
I would like to point out that it is not easy to find the subscription, and also it is not possible to subscribe with the app without using facebook
As memeber of epfl, I needed to find a way to subscribe with the epfl's adress, not with the facebook one
Agree with Nicola, I only found how to sign up because I wanted to write a comment here agreeing with her. And magically found a sign up button after clicking 'Sign In'. Ridiculous.
And ironically now I cannot find a 'sign out'! Or my own profile at all! I suspect after posting this comment I'll have to click my own name. Who knows. Very poorly designed website!
Still no sign out button and now I realise that signing up here does not sign you up for the app. Where can we do this??
